‘Chaite Dashain’ being observed today

KATHMANDU: The Chaitra Navaratri festival begins today with the onset of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. Marking the start of Chaite Dashain, Ghatasthapana is being performed at Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, where Goddess Navadurga is worshipped with traditional rituals.

According to Laxman Panthi, Executive Director of the Nepal Panchanga Nirnaya Development Committee, the auspicious time for Ghatasthapana today is 7:51 am, with the ritual to be conducted facing north.

On this occasion, devotees gather in large numbers at goddess temples and Shaktipeeths across the country to offer prayers.

As per Hindu tradition, four Navratris are observed annually. In Nepali practice, the Navaratris of Asar and Poush are also referred to as Lupta Navaratri.
