Nepali Congress to mark BP Koirala Memorial Day with climate awareness campaign

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has decided to commemorate the 44th memorial day of its founding leader, BP Koirala, with a public awareness campaign focused on climate change.

The party’s Central Policy, Research and Training Academy said it will organise a series of programmes on July 21 to raise public awareness about the impacts, challenges and solutions related to climate change.

According to Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal, a five-kilometre run will be held in Lalitpur under the slogan “Let’s Unite to Raise Climate Awareness.” The run will begin at 6:00 am from UN Park and conclude at Jawalakhel.

Following the run, a panel discussion titled “Climate Change Challenges: How Can They Be Addressed?” will take place at Jawalakhel Chowk. Environmental and climate experts will discuss the growing challenges posed by climate change and possible solutions.

To make the programme more engaging, a live painting session will also be organised alongside the discussion. Artists will depict the impacts of climate change, environmental conservation and hopes for a sustainable future through their artwork.

The Nepali Congress said it aims to transform the memorial day from a purely ceremonial event into an opportunity to promote public awareness of the global climate crisis and encourage greater environmental responsibility among citizens.
