KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has urged businesses to stop producing and selling unlabelled, counterfeit, substandard, and illegally imported footwear, including shoes and slippers, through both physical stores and digital platforms.
The department said it issued the notice after receiving complaints and grievances from various sources regarding the sale of such products in the market.
Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2018, manufacturers are required to label products in accordance with legal provisions, importers must meet all conditions prescribed by law when importing goods, and retailers are responsible for ensuring compliance before selling products. The law also guarantees consumers’ right to receive quality goods and services.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the department directed manufacturers, importers, transporters, warehouse operators, and retailers to comply with all legal obligations and conditions while conducting their businesses.
The department warned that anyone found violating the law would face strict legal action in accordance with prevailing legislation.
