NC lawmaker raises questions over Sudan Gurung’s property disclosure

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Abhishek Pratap Shah has raised concerns over the property details made public by former Home Minister Sudan Gurung, calling them suspicious and demanding a thorough investigation.

Speaking during the special hour of Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives of Nepal, Shah said there were multiple grounds for scrutiny regarding the asset declaration made by Gurung during his tenure as Home Minister.

He urged authorities to conduct an impartial investigation and make the findings public, stressing that individuals with questionable assets should not be shielded by the state.

“The property declared by then Home Minister Sudhan Gurung appears suspicious. It should be investigated independently and made public,” Shah said. “The state must carry out proper investigation and bring those responsible within the ambit of law.”

Shah also accused the government of attempting to protect Gurung through what he described as a staged investigation, referring to Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

He said the government should not engage in covering up issues involving suspicious assets and must ensure accountability through transparent legal processes.
