Lumbini Province Chief Minister Acharya to seek vote of confidence today

KATHMANDU: Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly today (Monday).

The Provincial Assembly Secretariat has published the proposed agenda for the 19th meeting of the eighth session of the Provincial Assembly, scheduled to begin at 1 pm, with the confidence vote listed as the main agenda.

According to the proposed agenda, the meeting will begin with the Speaker reading out letters received from the Office of the Province Chief.

Chief Minister Acharya, a CPN-UML leader, will then present a motion seeking a vote of confidence, along with a statement explaining his position. Following the tabling of the motion, Provincial Assembly members will deliberate on it.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to respond to questions and concerns raised by lawmakers during the discussion. After his response, the Speaker will put the motion seeking a vote of confidence to the Provincial Assembly for a decision.

The Lumbini Provincial Assembly has 83 members, and a minimum of 42 votes is required to secure a majority and form a government.

Chief Minister Acharya has been preparing to secure support from more than the required number of lawmakers to pass the confidence vote.

He is seeking the floor test after the Nepali Congress withdrew its support for the provincial government, in accordance with the constitutional provision requiring a chief minister who loses majority support to seek a vote of confidence.
