UML leader Sapkota dies after being hit by truck



KAILALI: Sabitra Sapkota, a member of the Advisory Committee of the CPN-UML Sudurpaschim Province Committee, died after the scooter she was riding was hit by a truck in Bardagoriya Rural Municipality-1, Kailali, on Monday.

According to police, the accident occurred near Muda Bridge in Bardagoriya-1 when Sapkota’s scooter (Se 1-01-001 Kha) was struck by a truck (Lu 1-01-010 Pa 0045) driven by 26-year-old Dinesh Giri of Bardaghat, Nawalparasi.

Sapkota, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, was rushed to Dododhara Hospital for treatment. However, doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.

Police Inspector Dambar Bista of the Area Police Office, Bauniya, said the truck driver Giri was taken into custody from the Mahendra Highway near the border of Bardagoriya and Lamkichuha municipalities.

Sapkota had contested the 2074 BS local-level election as the CPN-UML candidate for vice-chairperson of Bardagoriya Rural Municipality.
