Nepali Congress questions Speaker Aryal’s impartiality in House

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has raised questions over the role and impartiality of Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Speaking in the House, Nepali Congress lawmaker Chandra Mohan Yadav alleged that the Speaker’s conduct appeared biased and questioned whether Aryal had fully severed his ties with the Rastriya Swatantra Party, the party with which he was previously affiliated.

Yadav claimed that despite continuous protests by opposition parties over the Prime Minister’s remarks regarding border issues, the Speaker had failed to take adequate notice of their concerns.

He argued that developments in the House were weakening public trust and confidence in Parliament, and stressed that the Speaker should act as a guardian of all lawmakers and uphold the dignity of the legislature.

Following Yadav’s remarks, RSP lawmaker Ganesh Karki raised an objection on procedural grounds.

In response, Speaker Aryal said his attention had been drawn to the comments made by Yadav and instructed lawmakers to remain mindful of parliamentary rules and procedures.

Opposition parties, including the Nepali Congress, have been continuously obstructing House proceedings, demanding that the Prime Minister’s statement on border-related issues be expunged from the parliamentary record.
