KATHMANDU: The lottery to select eligible Nepali auxiliary workers for employment in Israel’s caregiving sector was conducted successfully on Thursday through a live broadcast from the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) Office in Jerusalem.
The selection process was carried out in a transparent manner in the presence of senior Israeli officials, the Ambassador of Israel to Nepal, representatives from Nepal’s Department of Foreign Employment, and members of the media, who observed the proceedings via live broadcast.
A total of 1,115 candidates participated in the lottery, including 784 men and 331 women. Seventy-five percent of candidates from each category were selected, resulting in a shortlist of 836 candidates.
Speaking after the lottery, Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Arie Bass said more than 2,100 additional employment opportunities in Israel’s caregiving sector are expected to become available in the near future.
He added that Nepal and Israel are in the final stages of concluding two bilateral labour agreements covering home-based caregiving and agricultural workers, which are expected to create further employment opportunities for Nepali workers.
The selected candidates will now undergo the final stages of the recruitment process, including medical examinations and criminal background verification. Those who are found medically fit and have no criminal record will be deployed to Israel in phases beginning in September 2026.
Workers recruited under the bilateral labour agreement will receive the same minimum wages, employment benefits and working conditions as Israeli workers in accordance with Israeli labour laws.
The Embassy of Israel said the successful completion of the lottery marks another milestone in labour cooperation between Nepal and Israel, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to transparency, fairness and equal opportunity throughout the recruitment process.
