KATHMANDU: Nepal and China have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors while respecting each other’s priorities, interests and sensitivities.
The understanding was reached during delegation-level bilateral talks between Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, who is on a four-day official visit to China, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, in Beijing on Monday.
According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides held substantive discussions on the overall state of Nepal-China relations, which are founded on friendship, goodwill and cooperation.
The discussions covered a broad range of areas, including infrastructure development, connectivity, border management, energy, trade and investment, agriculture, technology transfer, information technology and digitalization, tourism, chemical fertilizers, petroleum and natural gas exploration, and people-to-people exchanges.
During the talks, the Nepali side reiterated its firm commitment to the One-China policy and assured that Nepal’s territory would not be allowed to be used for activities against China.
The Chinese side, in turn, reaffirmed its support for Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, and pledged continued cooperation in Nepal’s priorities of good governance and economic development.
According to the ministry, both countries expressed strong commitment to the timely implementation of agreements, projects and programmes reached during previous bilateral engagements.
The two sides also underscored the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation on issues of mutual interest in regional and multilateral forums, according to a statement issued by the Nepali Embassy in Beijing.
