KATHMANDU: Chief Whip of the Nepali Communist Party Yubaraj Dulal has demanded that Prime Minister Balen Shah appear in Parliament and provide clear responses on pressing national issues.
Speaking at Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Dulal raised concerns over reports that an Indian military helicopter had landed in Nepali territory with Indian security officials on board, and sought the government’s official position on the matter.
He also drew attention to the worsening situation of tea industries and farmers in eastern Nepal, saying they were facing severe challenges due to alleged Indian obstruction.
“Business owners are under pressure and industries are in crisis. What is the government doing about this?” he asked, urging immediate government action.
Dulal said tea farming remains a key source of livelihood for thousands of farmers, but warned that continued disruptions could force factories and industries to shut down.
The lawmaker criticized the Prime Minister for what he described as extended absence from parliamentary accountability, remarking that despite being on “leave,” the head of government must still address national concerns.
Referring to recent social media posts by the Prime Minister, Dulal said Balen Shah had presented a “team for nation-building” and taken periodic breaks, but remained silent on sensitive national issues such as reported border incidents in Susta and alleged aerial activity in Darchula.
He said the Prime Minister should now return to Parliament and respond to questions regarding governance and national security.
“The Prime Minister has already taken his leave and even announced a nation-building team,” Dulal said. “Now that he has free time, we expect him to come to Parliament and answer the questions raised about ongoing incidents in the country.”
