Dhading police seize 52 kg opium and three loaded firearms



DHADING: Police in Dhading have seized a large quantity of illegal narcotics and firearms during a search operation targeting absconding suspects.

A total of 51 kg 980 grams of opium was recovered from Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality–2, Howang in southern Dhading. Police also arrested Bir Bahadur Tamang, 35, of the same area along with an illegal loaded firearm, according to the District Police Office, Dhading.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash Dahal said the operation was carried out based on information about large-scale drug trafficking. A team led by the chief of Gajuri Police Office, DSP Suraj Karki, raided Tamang’s house and nearby shed during the search.

“During the search, a loaded gun and two digital weighing scales were found hidden in a goat shed. A black, opium-like substance was also recovered from five plastic buckets kept near the bedroom,” DSP Dahal said.

He added that the seized substance weighed 51 kg 980 grams in the presence of local representatives. Police said Tamang, who was already a defendant in a previous drug case and was absconding, has been taken into custody and a case has been filed for drug trafficking and illegal arms possession. He has been remanded for further investigation by the District Court, Dhading.

Police also arrested two other individuals, Biraj Tamang (28) and Sanukanchha Tamang, from their respective homes in Howang, along with two additional loaded firearms. Further investigation is underway, police said.
