49 days to polls: Provincial security seminar on elections ends



KATHMANDU: A provincial-level security seminar focused on ensuring a clean, fair, and fear-free environment for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections has concluded.

The seminar, which began in Rupandehi of Lumbini Province on November 25, concluded on Tuesday in Janakpur, Madhesh Province. Held annually, the seminar is jointly organized by the federal Ministry of Home Affairs and provincial governments. This year’s discussions placed greater emphasis on internal security and election-focused security preparedness.

Addressing the Madhesh Province-level seminar in Janakpur, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal said the current government is committed to holding the House of Representatives elections on the scheduled date. According to the Home Minister’s Secretariat, he directed all four security agencies to ensure that the elections are conducted in a clean, fair, and fear-free manner.

To that end, the government has implemented the Integrated Security Plan–2082 for the elections scheduled for March 5. In addition, the Procedures for Recruitment, Selection, Appointment, and Mobilization of Election Police, 2082 have been approved and are currently being implemented.

As part of the preparations, the Nepal Police has begun the process of selecting 133,980 election police personnel. For election security, a total of 88,000 Nepal Army personnel, 77,000 Nepal Police personnel, and approximately 34,000 Armed Police Force personnel will be deployed.
