KATHMANDU: The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has handed over 17 surveillance drones to the Nepal Police as emergency assistance to expedite post-disaster operations, including search and rescue, relief and rehabilitation.
NCC Senior Vice President and President of its Disaster Management Council, Dipak Kumar Malhotra, reached the Police Headquarters on Friday and handed over the drones to the security agency.
Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki, NCC Director General Devendra Lamichhane and Nepal Police Senior Superintendent of Police Damodar Kandel were present at the handover ceremony.
NCC Director General Lamichhane said the drones would significantly support precise and timely search and rescue operations in disaster-affected areas. He said the aerial surveillance equipment would help monitor flood-ravaged areas, making it easier to assess the situation and coordinate rescue operations.
The NCC has already sent two drones to Bidur Municipality. One of the drones has a carrying capacity of up to 50 kg. The chamber has also provided 125 power banks to charge electronic devices essential for communication in the affected areas.
The business community has also launched a relief collection and distribution campaign for disaster survivors. Cash and in-kind assistance has been provided to the worst-hit districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
