UML mobilizes thousands for door-to-door campaign in Jhapa-5, seeks support for KP Oli

KATHMANDU: The UML has launched a large-scale door-to-door campaign in Jhapa Constituency-5 from Sunday, mobilizing thousands of party workers to collect voters’ feedback and address local concerns.

According to Devendra Dahal, central committee member of the party and coordinator of the election mobilization committee for the constituency, the campaign aims to directly connect with voters and incorporate their suggestions into the party’s agenda.

Party leaders and cadres from various levels, including central office bearers residing in the area, central members, provincial committee representatives, district and constituency officials, members of sister organizations, and local neighborhood committees, have been deployed to visit households across the constituency.

The campaign covers all 29 wards under Constituency-5, with cadres reaching every neighborhood and household to encourage voter participation in the upcoming by-election scheduled for March 5. During the visits, voters are being urged to support UML’s candidate and party chairperson KP Sharma Oli.

Speaking from Prashanti Tole in Ward-5 of Damak, Lila Dhungel Dahal, chairperson of the Jhapa chapter of the All Nepal Women’s Association, said teams have been engaging in discussions with voters in each neighborhood. She stated that the party has pledged to address the grievances, suggestions, and issues raised during the interactions.

“The encouragement and assurances from the public have further energized us,” she said.

Dahal informed that his team alone visited around 70 households from 11 am until evening on the first day of the campaign.

As part of its election strategy, the party has mobilized thousands of cadres simultaneously across all wards and neighborhood committees in the constituency under a unified plan. Leaders claim the initiative is also aimed at countering what they describe as misinformation and negative narratives being spread against the party and its chair on social media platforms.

Damak Municipality Chair Ram Paudel said the use of derogatory language and misleading narratives on social media has fostered negative sentiments in society. He claimed such trends have also contributed to growing dissatisfaction among voters toward opposition forces.

Campaign participants have also appealed to the public to maintain social harmony and avoid disruptive or misleading activities that could create tensions in local communities.

The door-to-door drive has been launched as a coordinated campaign across all neighborhood in the constituency from today.
