Police recover $60,000 in cash during SBI Bank robbery investigation in Sindhuli



SINDHULI: The police have recovered $60,000 while investigating the SBI Bank robbery in Ghyanglekh, Sindhuli.

The foreign currency was found late Tuesday night from a Tata Sumo vehicle (registration Ba 16 Cha 8048) traveling from Kathmandu to Ilam.

At around 11 pm, a routine vehicle check at the checkpoint in Upper Khurkot Market, Goljungor Rural Municipality-7, uncovered the unaccounted foreign currency.

Police said the currency was in a black bag carried by 34-year-old Yubaraj Newar, a resident of Mechinagar Municipality-3, Jhapa. The bag contained $57,000 in 100-dollar notes (570 notes) and NPR 12,000 in 1,000-rupee notes (12 notes).

The Sindhuli police had deployed all personnel to investigate the bank robbery. During the operation, the foreign currency was found in the Sumo en route to Jhapa.

The vehicle and the individual have been taken into police custody in Khurkot, and the investigation is ongoing.
