Probe committee formed to investigate Kavre bus crash that killed eight



KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has formed a probe committee to determine the cause of a fatal bus accident that occurred in Buchchakot, Ward No. 2 of Namobuddha Municipality, Kavrepalanchok district, on Friday.

According to the Police Headquarters, a six-member investigation committee has been constituted under the coordination of Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Thapa of the Nepal Police Provincial Office, Kavre.

The accident took place when a passenger bus (Ba 3 Kha 8398) travelling from Banepa to Roshi Kharpachok lost control and plunged nearly 300 meters off the road. Eight passengers died on the spot, while 16 others sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital.

Police said the committee has been tasked with identifying the actual circumstances and causes of the crash, determining any responsible parties, and submitting a factual investigation report within seven days.

All eight victims identified

The District Police Office, Kavrepalanchok, has identified all eight victims who died in the accident along the BP Highway section in Buchchakot, Namobuddha Municipality.

The deceased have been identified as 73-year-old Megh Bahadur Tamang, 55-year-old Raju Tamang and 75-year-old Indra Bahadur Tamang, all residents of Roshi Rural Municipality-6; 34-year-old Phulmaya Tamang and 60-year-old Maya Tamang of Roshi-7; 60-year-old Pyarimaya Tamang of Roshi-8; 30-year-old Nepali Army personnel Bam Bahadur Bhandari, originally from Dailekh and serving at Trinetra Dal Battalion in Bhakundebesi; and 22-year-old Sumi Tamang of Ghyanglekh Rural Municipality-4 in Sindhuli.

District Police Office Information Officer Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista said all eight bodies have been recovered from the crash site.

The injured passengers are receiving treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital. The bus was travelling from Banepa to Roshi Rural Municipality when it veered off the road from the Selfie Danda area of Buchchakot and fell down a steep slope.

Police said further investigation is underway, while authorities have begun contacting the victims’ families and completing the necessary legal procedures.
