JSP-N unveils 28-page manifesto pledging free health, education and strong federalism

KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, led by Chairperson Upendra Yadav, has unveiled its election manifesto for the upcoming House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly polls scheduled for March 5.

At a program held in Kathmandu on Friday, Yadav made public the 28-page manifesto under the slogan “Strong Federalism, Prosperity and Inclusive Development.”

The manifesto prioritizes free health services, free education, a corruption-free state, scientific agricultural modernization, infrastructure development and social justice.

The party has pledged to amend the Constitution to implement federalism based on identity and capability, form a “Jan Lokpal” anti-corruption body, and introduce a cashless economy.

Free health and education

The JSP-N has presented what it describes as a game changer commitment in health and education.

The party has promised to establish one super-specialty hospital and health sciences academy in each province, and well-equipped hospitals in every local level. It has also pledged to ensure free healthcare services for all citizens and provide free and quality education from early childhood to university level.

Zero tolerance against corruption

The manifesto places corruption control at the center of its agenda. The party has committed to adopting a zero-tolerance policy, forming a Jan Lokpal, and investigating the property of all prime ministers, ministers, lawmakers and high-ranking officials since 1990.

It has also pledged to fully implement cashless transactions and ensure justice for victims of cooperative fund misappropriation. The manifesto further promises free visa and ticket arrangements for migrant workers going for foreign employment.

Agricultural modernization and job creation

The party has outlined a plan to transform agriculture into the backbone of the national economy. It has pledged to create five million jobs within five years through scientific land consolidation, cooperative farming, mechanization and vertical farming.

The JSP-N has also committed to ensuring minimum support prices, market guarantees, crop insurance and affordable agricultural loans. Chure conservation, climate-resilient farming and food security are listed among key priorities.

Infrastructure and inclusive policies

Calling infrastructure development the foundation of economic transformation, the party has pledged to complete the Hulaki Highway within five years, prioritize the East-West Railway, operationalize the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast Track within two years, and construct north-south economic corridors in Madhesh.

The manifesto also includes commitments for special electoral constituency reservations for women and Dalits, equal rights for gender and sexual minorities and persons with disabilities, youth employment and skills development, and construction of international-standard cricket and football stadiums in each province.

Social security expansion, gender equality and the creation of a discrimination-free society have been highlighted as core agendas of the party’s campaign.
