KATHMANDU: Shram Sanskriti Party chair Harka Sampang has raised serious questions over Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s response and the role of the Nepal Army following reports of an incident in Susta involving Indian border security forces.
Speaking during the Friday session of the House of Representatives, MP Sampang criticised the government’s silence over the alleged movement of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in the Susta area of Nawalparasi.
During the emergency time of the meeting, Sampang said, “It has already been 11 days since the Prime Minister said Nepal has also encroached on Indian land, yet there is no sign of him appearing in Parliament.”
He demanded that if the Prime Minister is unable to attend Parliament, the Defence Minister should be called to address the issue. “If the Prime Minister cannot come, who is the Defence Minister of Nepal? Speaker D.P. Aryal should summon him here,” Sampang said.
Reference to Susta incident
Sampang said that BSF personnel were seen harassing Nepali citizens in Susta and claimed that unarmed locals were still defending their land.
“In Susta, Indian BSF personnel are intimidating Nepali citizens. Our unarmed brothers and sisters are still fighting to protect their land,” he said.
Questions over Nepal Army deployment
The MP also questioned why the Nepal Army was not deployed for border protection.
“What oath has the Nepal Army taken that prevents it from going to the border? What agreement has been made that stops the army from being deployed there?” he asked.
Call for investigation
Sampang also referred to Home Minister Sudan Gurung’s remarks on investigations into historical incidents and demanded that all issues be thoroughly probed.
He stressed that anyone found guilty should face action “without bias or consideration of identity.”
Sampang has repeatedly raised concerns in Parliament regarding border security, government accountability, and the role of the security forces.
