101 drivers penalised in Kathmandu Valley during surprise traffic checks

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office took action against 101 drivers in a single day during surprise checks conducted across the Valley.

According to police, the action was taken against drivers found consuming alcohol or violating traffic rules during the special campaign carried out at various locations.

Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi said five drivers were penalised for driving under the influence of alcohol, two for violating traffic lights and 94 for failing to follow lane discipline and committing other traffic rule violations.

Subedi said driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal and punishable by law, warning that such behaviour puts the lives of drivers, passengers and other road users at risk.

He urged passengers to immediately inform the nearest police office or contact the traffic control room hotline 103 or police hotline 100 if they suspect a driver has consumed alcohol or drugs.
