Nepal reaffirms support for UNIFIL, calls for protection of peacekeepers

KATHMANDU: Nepal has reaffirmed its strong support for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and stressed the need to ensure the safety and security of UN peacekeepers serving in Lebanon amid challenging circumstances.

According to Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations, Nepal joined other countries on Wednesday in expressing solidarity with the UN peacekeeping mission and emphasizing the importance of protecting personnel deployed in the field.

Nepal stated that peacekeepers must never be targeted under any circumstances and strongly condemned attacks against UN personnel.

The government also wished injured peacekeepers a speedy and full recovery.

Furthermore, Nepal called on all concerned parties to exercise maximum restraint, respect international law, and fully implement the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

UNIFIL, established by the United Nations, has been deployed in Lebanon to help maintain peace and stability along the border region and support humanitarian efforts.
