Oli concedes defeat, vows to respect people’s decision

KATHMANDU: After an unexpected election setback, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said he accepts the people’s mandate with full respect, acknowledging that both he and his party did not achieve the results they had hoped for.

On Thursday, Oli wrote on social media that he accepts the people’s verdict with full respect.

“I could not get the results I expected in this election. Our party also could not achieve the results we had hoped for,” said Oli, who was defeated by senior Balendra Shah (Balen) in Jhapa-5.

“In a democracy, the final decision belongs to the people, and it is my and my party’s duty to uphold that decision. I accept the people’s vote with full respect.”

Oli expressed gratitude to voters, party leaders, workers, volunteers, well-wishers, and supporters who stood by the UML and voted for the party’s sun symbol even during difficult times.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the voters, leaders, workers, volunteers, well-wishers, and supporters who stood by us by voting for the sun symbol even in these challenging times. Your trust is our strength. With you, our strength lies,” Oli said.

He further added, “The election results were not in our favor. However, our commitment to serving the people has not weakened. We will remain among the people, continue to work for them, and move forward by further strengthening this relationship of trust. I would like to thank everyone who voted, supported, and trusted us.”
