UML General Secretary Pokharel warns of impact of Gulf war on Nepali workers

KATHMANDU: Shankar Pokharel, General Secretary of the CPN-UML, has said Nepali migrant workers in the Gulf region are facing serious fear and uncertainty due to the ongoing conflict there.

Expressing his views through social media, Pokharel warned that the escalating tension could have serious consequences for people’s lives and the economy.

He said the conflict in the Gulf is likely to lead to shortages of oil and gas and trigger price hikes in the market. “Possible shortages and rising prices may affect the overall market system and make daily life more difficult,” he said.

Pokharel also urged Nepali society to remain patient and exercise restraint during this sensitive time.

He stressed that the incoming government should immediately begin concrete planning and preparations to mitigate the impact of the crisis.

According to him, failure to address the situation in time could lead not only to economic and humanitarian problems but also to larger geopolitical tensions in the future.

“Let us be serious and remain alert,” Pokharel said, urging concerned stakeholders to stay vigilant.
