PM Karki reviews election preparedness in Solukhumbu, other districts
Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Thursday visited Solukhumbu and other districts to review election preparedness and assess the ground situation. According to her secretariat, PM Karki held discussions with local residents and government officials in Namche and Salleri of Solukhumbu. In Salleri, an interaction was held at the District Coordination Committee office in the presence of Chief Election Officer Chandra Kumar Pokharel, Chief District Officer Leela Kumari KC Pandey, Chief of District Security bodies, including Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local representatives.
Election Commission calls on candidates to submit manifestos by Feb 15
The Election Commission (EC) has called on all candidates contesting under the first-past-the-post system in the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5 to submit their election manifestos to the respective Election Officer’s office by February 15. According to Section 37 of the Election Code, 2026, all candidates must make their manifestos public and submit one copy to the concerned Election Officer by the deadline. The notice was issued by Branch Officer (Law) Arun Adhikari on the basis of the EC’s decision dated February 10.
RSP chief Rabi Lamichhane expresses confidence in justice from courts
Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has expressed confidence that the courts will deliver justice regarding the allegations against him. Lamichhane made the remarks on Thursday while appearing at the District Court, Kaski, Pokhara, to record his hearing date. Speaking to journalists, he said that he has had to attend different courts for hearings but believes that justice will be served through the judicial process. He said that since everyone receives justice from the courts, he has always respected the legal and judicial procedures.
PM Sushila Karki holds meeting with security chiefs in Solukhumbu
Prime Minister Sushila Karki held a meeting with the chiefs of security agencies deployed in Solukhumbu district. According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting focused on the overall security situation in the district, maintenance of law and order, and the status of public service delivery. District chiefs of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were present during the discussion.
Prohibitory order imposed inside Tribhuvan International Airport premises
The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has imposed a prohibitory order within the premises of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The order was issued after certain groups and political parties announced plans to stage demonstrations in and around the airport area on February 13. According to the local administration, the prohibitory order will come into effect from Thursday and remain in place for one month. With the order in force, gatherings of more than five people inside the airport premises for protests such as hunger strikes, sit-ins, encirclements, rallies, demonstrations and assemblies will not be permitted.
Maha Shivaratri preparations at Pashupatinath in final stage
The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has said that preparations for the upcoming Maha Shivaratri festival have reached the final stage. Organizing a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday on the eve of the festival, the Trust informed that necessary arrangements have been completed through various sub-committees formed for the occasion.
National Assembly session prorogued from midnight Friday
The ongoing session of the National Assembly has been prorogued. President Ramchandra Paudel, on the recommendation of the government, ended the session effective from 12:00 midnight on Friday, February 13. According to a statement issued by Ritesh Kumar Shakya, spokesperson for the Office of the President, the session was prorogued in accordance with Article 93 (2) of the Constitution, following the recommendation of the Council of Ministers dated February 9.

Nepal suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat to Italy in the ICC T20 World Cup match held on Thursday. Displaying a poor performance in both batting and bowling, Nepal failed to claim a single wicket as Italy comfortably chased down the target. Italy’s victory was powered by an outstanding opening partnership between the Mosca brothers. Anthony Mosca smashed 62 runs off 32 balls, hitting three fours and six sixes.
Sharma urges party leaders to avoid attacking opponents in election campaign
Nepali Congress Vice President Bishwo Prakash Sharma has urged party leaders and cadres to enter the election campaign without resorting to personal attacks against opponents. Addressing an election-focused interaction program with party members in Rupandehi on Thursday, Sharma said the party should compete based on its agenda rather than creating hostility or criticizing rival parties.
Election Commission begins receiving printed materials for House of Representatives by-election
The Election Commission has started receiving printed materials required for the upcoming House of Representatives by-election scheduled for March 5. According to Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC, essential materials including voting guidelines, vote counting directives, election-related Acts, regulations and other manuals have been printed in sufficient quantities at the printing press of Nepal Academy in Kamaladi and have begun arriving at the Commission. He said the printed materials received will be dispatched to all 77 districts along with other election-related supplies.
RPP Chair Lingden calls for making party a decisive force in Parliament
Chairperson of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rajendra Lingden, has said that the upcoming elections should establish his party as a decisive force in Parliament. Addressing a caucus program organized by JCI here today, Lingden said the country’s existing problems require fresh thinking and that his party has been raising its voice for alternative solutions. He noted that while there is ongoing debate about new versus old forces in politics, evaluation should not be based merely on age, party affiliation, new faces, or first-time candidacy. Instead, he stressed that assessment should be made on the basis of ideas and vision.
Prachanda says communist unity vital during national crisis
Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said that despite political differences among various communist parties, cooperation has continued whenever the nation faces challenges. Addressing a joint election rally of the NCP and the Rastriya Janamorcha in Galkot, Baglung today, Prachanda highlighted that the collaboration in Baglung sends a message of unity across the country. He added that the electoral alliance with Janamorcha demonstrates nationwide unity and that this cooperation will continue even after the elections.
NEPSE rebounds to end week at 2,671.07
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index halted its declining trend on Thursday, posting a gain of nearly nine points after continuous losses since the start of the week. The benchmark index, which had dropped by 10.24 points on Sunday, 26.05 on Monday, 10.25 on Tuesday and 0.04 on Wednesday, rebounded by 8.97 points on Thursday to close at 2,671.07. The index had opened at 2,662.10 earlier in the day. Alongside the index, daily turnover also saw a significant improvement, according to NEPSE.
Four Nepali cricketers climb up ICC T20I rankings
Four Nepali cricketers have improved their positions in the latest ICC T20 International (T20I) rankings released on Wednesday. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Nepal national team captain Rohit Paudel, vice-captain Deependra Singh Airee, opener Kushal Bhurtel and leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane have all made gains in the updated rankings. All-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee registered improvement in both batting and bowling categories. He climbed four places in the batting rankings to reach 72nd position, while moving up five spots in the bowling rankings to secure 71st place. His all-rounder ranking remains unchanged at sixth.
Nepal Police brings back 10 fugitives with Interpol support
Nepal Police has brought back 10 individuals who had fled abroad after committing crimes in Nepal, in coordination with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). According to Nepal Police Central Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Abhi Narayan Kafle, Interpol had issued Red Notices against 11 individuals and Diffusion Notices against three in the current fiscal year. Of them, eight individuals against whom Red Notices were issued and two against whom Diffusion Notices were issued have been arrested in different countries and repatriated to Nepal with Interpol’s coordination.
Dipendra Singh Airee signed by Islamabad United in PSL auction
Nepal national cricket team vice-captain and all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee has been signed by Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). In the auction held on Wednesday, Airee was picked by Islamabad United at his base price of 6 million Pakistani rupees. Reacting to the news of his selection, Airee expressed happiness, saying he was delighted to hear that he had been chosen in the PSL auction.
