KATHMANDU: As many as 403 tourists have gone missing following the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa on Wednesday, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
Of the missing tourists, 62 are Nepali nationals and 341 are foreigners, said Hikmat Singh Air, acting chief executive officer of the Nepal Tourism Board.
According to Air, the tourists had traveled to Gosainkunda and Kailash Mansarovar through various travel companies and lost contact following the flood.
The missing tourists include 203 men and 200 women. Indian nationals account for the largest group, with 133 reported missing. They are followed by 47 from the United States, 34 from Australia, 33 from the United Kingdom, 24 from Canada, 19 from Malaysia, seven from Ukraine, six each from Singapore and South Africa, and five each from New Zealand and Japan.
The Nepal Tourism Board said tourists and visitors from more than 25 countries, including Germany, France, Russia, Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands, have also been affected or stranded by the floods.
The floods have caused extensive damage to settlements, security posts and customs facilities in Timure and Syafrubesi. Roads and bridges linking the Rasuwagadhi border crossing have also been damaged, disrupting access to the area.
