Special convention leaders warn of new NC leadership if Deuba does not appear

KATHMANDU: Leaders supporting the Nepali Congress special convention have warned that if party president Sher Bahadur Deuba does not appear, a new leadership will be announced tomorrow, following the voice of the majority of delegates.

During a press briefing at the media center on the second day of the ongoing second special convention at Bhrikutimandap, leader Subash Pokharel issued this warning.

He stated that 63 percent of delegates have expressed support for the special convention. If President Deuba and acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka do not attend, the convention platform will move forward to announce a new working committee.

Pokharel emphasized that both General Secretaries Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Gagan Thapa, along with President Deuba, should be present at the convention. “We call on the president to come and join the session alongside the general secretaries soon,” he said. “If the current leadership does not heed the voice of the majority, a new committee will be elected here and move ahead.”

He further clarified that the special convention was organized to protect the party from extremist factions. “The current leadership met with leftist and rightist elements but did not follow the party’s policies. Their deviation caused public outrage, which is why the special convention became necessary,” Pokharel added.
