NC President Deuba holds emergency meeting with legal experts amid special convention crisis

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba convened an urgent meeting with party-affiliated legal experts and senior party officials at his residence on Monday afternoon as the party faced a major internal challenge during the ongoing special convention in Bhrikutimandap.

The move comes after General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma mobilized a large number of convention delegates against the committee led by Deuba, creating a political crisis for the party president.

Deuba reportedly began discussions with the legal experts and party officials at 3 pm at his Maharajganj residence, exploring potential legal options to counter the decisions of the special convention.

The special convention has already tabled a proposal to dissolve the committee led by Deuba. Debates over both party policy and leadership have intensified, putting Deuba and senior leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala in a difficult position.

According to sources close to the party, the discussions aim to explore legal challenges against the convention’s decisions, ensuring that any action taken aligns with the party’s constitution and legal framework.
