KATHMANDU: The government has decided to recommend the President to summon a session of the National Assembly on January 18.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday resolved to forward the recommendation to call the upper house of the federal parliament at 11 am at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar.
Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel said the Cabinet also approved the Financial Sector Development Strategy for the period 2025/26 to 2029/30.
The Cabinet further decided to appoint Govinda Prasad Bhandari of Bhaktapur as the new Chairperson of the Gorkhapatra Corporation, Nepal’s national daily.
Among other key decisions, the government approved Nepal’s annual contribution of USD 283,503 to the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) for the year 2024.
The Cabinet also endorsed a financial assistance of USD 350,000 for the reconstruction of the Maha Muni Phaya Buddhist Pagoda Archive and the Ganga Ghat Temple in Myanmar, which were damaged by the March 2025 earthquake.
In addition, the government approved the National Policy against Human Trafficking 2082, aimed at strengthening prevention, protection and prosecution mechanisms to combat trafficking.
The decisions were taken as part of the government’s broader efforts to advance legislative, economic and diplomatic priorities ahead of the upcoming parliamentary session.
