Viewing center built in Ghaar Deurali through donations and volunteer labor

MYAGDI: Locals have constructed a viewing center in Ghaar Deurali of Annapurna Rural Municipality–6 without government assistance.

The Bhuwani Youth Family built the center in memory of their late founding member, Krishna Prasad Baruwal, who passed away two years ago. Along with volunteer labor, the group raised about Rs 200,000 to develop a hiking trail, install railings, create a rest area, and set up an information board leading to Deurali Danda.

“We have built this infrastructure in memory of Baruwal to promote Deurali as a tourist destination,” said family leader Shyam Prasad Khadka. “With the hiking trail, railings, and rest and viewing facilities at the mountaintop, it has now become easier and safer for tourists to visit.”

The Bhuwani Youth Family raised Rs 120,000, with an additional Rs 185,500 in support from the community. Five individuals contributed food worth around Rs 13,000 for participants in the volunteer work, while 35 people donated labor, averaging two days each. Khadka, who contributed nine days of labor, also donated gravel and sand worth Rs 3,000.

Situated at 1,784 meters above sea level, Deurali offers panoramic views of the Nilgiri and Annapurna mountain ranges, hilly terrain, rural settlements, and the Kaligandaki River flowing through Nagbeli.

The area provides a peaceful vantage point to observe nearby villages such as Ghar, Sikh, Pawdwar, Bhurung-Tatopani, Dana, and Narchyang. Deurali can be reached via a 10-minute walk from Bhuwane along the Pokharebgar-Chitre-Ghodepani route, which also has a dirt road.

The Pokharebgar-Chitre road connects to Ghodepani, a major tourist hub on the world-famous Annapurna Circuit Trek. Ram Bahadur Khadka, Ward Chairman of Annapurna–6, said efforts are underway to develop Deurali as a tourist destination to encourage longer stays in Ghodepani and boost local economic activity.
