Pashupati launches clean-up drive ahead of Shrawan pilgrimage

KATHMANDU: The Pashupati Area Development Trust has launched a clean-up campaign in the Pashupati temple premises to facilitate the large number of devotees expected to visit the shrine during the month of Shrawan.

Shrawan, particularly Mondays, is considered especially auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva, drawing hundreds of thousands of devotees to the Pashupatinath Temple.

Acting Member Secretary and Treasurer of the Trust Meena Kumari Shrestha said the clean-up campaign began on Saturday to ensure better services and a cleaner environment for pilgrims.

On the first day, volunteers cleaned the area from the main Pashupatinath Temple to Suryaghat. The campaign will continue on Sunday afternoon after the temple closes, allowing for a more thorough cleaning of the premises.

Shrestha said security agencies will also participate in the campaign.

More than a dozen organisations took part in Saturday’s clean-up drive. The Trust plans to continue the campaign every Saturday and will conduct additional special cleaning programmes on Sundays and other days during Shrawan as needed to manage the expected influx of devotees.
