Govt to coordinate with provinces to reduce pesticide use

KATHMANDU: The government has announced plans to coordinate with provincial governments to reduce the use of chemical pesticides in agriculture.

Presenting the government’s policy and program in a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Monday, President Ram Chandra Poudel made the announcement.

He said efforts would be made to promote an agricultural revolution through modernisation, while also ensuring the availability of subsidised seeds and agricultural loans.

President Poudel stated that the government aims to discourage the trend of leaving arable land barren and promote its scientific utilisation.

He also said that women, landless people, and small and medium-scale farmers would be identified to ensure effective use of land resources.

Similarly, the government plans to expand access to concessional loans and agricultural technology through farmer registration, identity cards, and credit cards.

In addition, the government has said it will work with provinces to minimise the use of pesticides in farming by promoting safer and more sustainable agricultural practices.
