KATHMANDU: Opposition parties are preparing to challenge the government during the first meeting of the House of Representatives under the budget session scheduled for Monday.
With the first meeting of the monsoon session set to begin at 2 pm, opposition parties have intensified preparations to collectively confront the government over several controversial issues.
The opposition plans to raise concerns over ordinances issued by the government, including those related to the Constitutional Council, as well as alleged excesses committed in the name of managing squatter settlements.
Major opposition parties, including the Nepali Congress, appear united on the issue. Internal discussions have also reportedly taken place among leaders of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and the NCP to coordinate a joint strategy against the government.
The government has scheduled three separate meetings of the House of Representatives for Monday.
President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to present the government’s policies and programmes at a joint session of the federal parliament at 4 pm.
Opposition parties have recently accused the government led by PM Balen Shah of becoming increasingly authoritarian and say they intend to exert pressure by collectively raising opposition voices in parliament.
