Turkish Airlines plane’s tyre catches fire during landing at TIA

KATHMANDU: A Turkish Airlines aircraft arriving from Istanbul caught fire while landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Monday morning.

According to Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Silwal of the Airport Security Office, a tyre of flight TK726 caught fire during landing.

“The fire broke out in one of the tyres while the aircraft was landing. It was quickly brought under control with the help of fire engines, and the situation is now normal,” Silwal said. “The runway was temporarily closed for inspection.”

He said the aircraft was carrying 273 passengers and 11 crew members. All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated.

Authorities have launched a technical inspection of the aircraft to determine the cause of the incident, Silwal added.
