No alternative to election in current situation: Prachanda

BAGLUNG: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that there is no alternative to elections in the current political situation.

Addressing a public interaction program in Baglung on Wednesday, Dahal stated that the country is in a difficult phase and that elections are the only way to provide an outlet to the ongoing crisis. He clarified that although some political parties have raised issues such as reinstatement of Parliament and formation of an all-party government, the NCP is not focused on those options.

“This election is not something we desired at this time. We had planned to go to the polls in 2084. It is an election forced by extraordinary circumstances,” Dahal said. “There is no alternative but to utilize this election. For honest communists and patriots, elections are the strongest medium to reach the people.”

He said the NCP was formed with the objective of uniting leftist and patriotic forces to safeguard the country amid the current challenges. Dahal added that the party remains committed to protecting the achievements gained through long struggle and sacrifice.

Referring to the Gen-Z movement, Dahal said that while the youth-led protests aimed to fight corruption, establish good governance, and ensure civil liberties, vested domestic and foreign interests infiltrated the movement and created disruption.

“Young people took to the streets seeking corruption-free governance and civil freedom, and we respected that. But there was infiltration,” he said. “Domestic and foreign forces acted in their own interests, leading the country toward instability. That is unfortunate.”

He stressed the need for unity among leftist forces to safeguard national transformation and stability.
