MUSTANG: A total of 39 polling centers and polling stations have been set up in Mustang for the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives (HoR) scheduled for March 5.
According to the District Election Office, the lowest number of voters has been recorded at the Samar Basic School polling station in Waragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality-3, Samar, where only 36 voters are registered.
This is the smallest voter turnout point in Mustang, which has a single House of Representatives constituency. Similarly, the Himali Basic School polling station in Waragung Muktikshetra–5, Sangta, has just 39 registered voters, said District Election Officer Lokendra Gyawali.
In contrast, the highest number of voters in the district has been recorded at the Janhit polling station in Gharpajhong Rural Municipality–4, Jomsom, with 689 voters.
Following the update of the voter list after the 2022 House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections, Mustang now has a total of 11,328 registered voters. Of the 39 polling centers and stations, six are located in Gharpajhong Rural Municipality, eight in Thasang, 10 in Loghekar Damodarkunda, nine in Waragung Muktikshetra, and six in Lomanthang Rural Municipality.
Gharpajhong Rural Municipality has 2,492 voters in total, with 689 at Janhit polling station and the lowest number, 81 voters, at Chhairo Basic School. Thasang Rural Municipality has 2,907 voters, including 653 at Janadarsh Amar Singh Secondary School in Kowang and the lowest number, 65 voters, at Sauru Basic School.
Loghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality in Upper Mustang has 1,542 voters, with the highest number, 319, at Charang Basic School in Loghekar–1, Charang, and the lowest, 70 voters, at the Dhhi Basic School polling station. Waragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality has 2,376 voters, including 520 at Janashanti Secondary School in Kagbeni and the lowest number, 36 voters, at Samar Basic School. Lomanthang Rural Municipality has 2,011 voters, with 620 registered at National Basic School and the lowest number, 136 voters, at Divya Gyan Basic School in Chumjung.
To reduce the number of invalid votes, the Election Commission has launched a voter education program. District Election Officer Gyawali said training of trainers for voter education facilitators recommended by the five local governments will begin from Wednesday. Following the training, voter education programs will be conducted across all 25 wards in the district.
