Gandaki University observes its first convocation

GANDAKI: Forty-four students were conferred with degrees during the First Convocation Ceremony of the Gandaki University here today.

At the convocation ceremony, a total of 44 students were conferred degrees, with 11 in sports management, 18 in information technology, and 15 in pharmaceutical sciences.

On the occasion, Gaurav Bhandari, who achieved the highest CGPA at the Bachelor’s level, received the Chancellor medal. Similarly, Gaurav Bhandari, Malin Kumar Roka, and Katrina Basnet received the Vice Chancellor medal.

Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendra Raj Pandey, has stated that education linked to research, technology use, and production is necessary for the country.

According to the Chief Minister, only the education system linked with scientific research, use of technology and production could contribute to the nation’s economic development.

He emphasised that the education system should be linked with industries and businesses that create employment, noting that the increasing trend of a large number of young people going abroad after completing higher education has become a growing concern.

Educationist Prof Dr Kedar Bhakta Mathema said that the nature of education needs to change according to the changing global environment. He stressed that market-oriented, research-oriented, and artificial intelligence-related subjects should be included in the curriculum.

Dr Mathema highlighted the need for students to develop the ability to think, analyse, and find solutions, rather than just acquiring information.

Vice Chancellor Indra Prasad Tiwari stated that the university aims to be developed as a research-oriented, technology-friendly, and internationally recognised educational centre. He said the expansion of research centres, collaboration with government agencies, and community-based studies and research are prioritised.

Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, Kailash Nath Pyakuryal, stated that the university should now move beyond physical infrastructure development and focus on quality education and institutional strengthening.

Established in 2019, the Gandaki University provides world-class education in keeping with the most recent international trends in University education. This includes interdisciplinary choices of the subjects and student-centered pedagogical approaches that will assist students in meeting their life-long goals and dreams.
