KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala released a video message amid the ongoing special general convention, emphasizing his commitment to party unity and adherence to its rules, statutes, and policies. He highlighted that he has consistently worked for the Nepali Congress, even in the face of disagreements within the party.
“I want to make it clear that I have no personal ambitions. Opportunities for ministerial or general secretary posts have come many times, but I have never sought them. Likewise, the positions of party president or prime minister have never tempted me,” Koirala said.
“The values I have received from my family guide my life and politics. Inspired by these principles, I stand firmly for the overall unity of the Congress. While I have had to challenge some of Sher Bahadur Deuba’s working methods, I have also faced the energetic dissatisfaction of young leaders.”
Koirala affirmed his deep familiarity with the Nepali Congress constitution and said he submitted his vote in writing to the Central Working Committee during the campaign for the special general convention.
“While submitting my vote, I was careful not to cause technical or emotional divisions within the party. I know who bears the cost when the Nepali Congress is divided. I will not work for division but for the unity of Congress’s values and sentiments,” he said.
“Even if I stand alone, I will not be swayed by positions vacated by leaders like BP Koirala or Krishna Prasad Bhattarai. Can we not come together and hold a general convention that sends a message of consensus, cooperation, and unity? Our well-wishers and the international community expect nothing less.”
He addressed the party’s general convention representatives directly, calling them the heritage of the Congress and capable of fulfilling the historic responsibility of building a united party. “I have been striving for this task over the past few days and will continue until a solution is reached. Moving forward with unity is possible only under the slogan of Jai Nepal,” Koirala concluded.
