Bus wreckage found in Trishuli; suspected to be missing bus from Simaltal

CHITWAN: Bus wreckage has been discovered on the bank of the Trishuli River at Dwandrang Bensi, Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality-5, Tanahun. Authorities suspect it could be one of the two buses that went missing in Simaltal, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29, last year.

The wreckage was found approximately 200 meters upstream toward Tanahun from the original location where the bus disappeared. Inspector Prateek Singh of the Muglin Area Police Office said locals spotted something resembling a bus while fishing, after noticing a net stuck in the river. Upon seeing the bus buried in sand, authorities immediately began excavation efforts.

Inspector Singh added that the blue-colored bus matches the color of the Ganapati bus that went missing in Simaltal, making it a possible match. However, confirmation will only be possible once the bus is fully recovered.

On July 12, 2024, two buses were swept into the Trishuli River by a landslide along the Narayangadh–Muglin road section. The buses were the Ganapati (Bagmati Province–03–001 Kha 2495) and Angel Deluxe (Bagmati Province–03–006 Kha 1516). Of the 65 passengers on board, 11 bodies were recovered and three people were injured. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabindra Khanal stated that 51 people remain missing from the incident.
