KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has described the announcement to resume operations at the Hetauda Textile Industry without a concrete and clear action plan as a “political stunt.”
In a statement shared on Facebook, Pokharel urged the government to come up with a sustainable plan to operate the closed industry using modern technology and efficient management.
Pokharel said successive governments have repeatedly attempted to reopen the closed industry soon after taking office, only for it to operate for a few days before shutting down again.
“Instead of repeating such a drama for political publicity, it is necessary to prepare a concrete plan on how the industry can be operated sustainably with modern technology, professional capacity and efficient management,” Pokharel wrote.
He argued that attempting to reopen the industry without a clear technical and commercial plan would only repeat its past failures.
Pokharel urged the government to abandon publicity-driven approaches and focus instead on a long-term strategy for the industry’s revival.
