Road blockages reported in several places, traffic disrupted

KATHMANDU: Heavy rainfall has triggered landslides and road blockages in several parts of the country, disrupting vehicular movement along major highways and road sections.

According to the police, as of 6 am today, roads in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Ilam, Rasuwa, Rukum West and Lamjung have been affected by landslides, mudslides, river erosion and debris.

The BP Highway has been completely blocked in Kavrepalanchok following a landslide early this morning. To reduce the risk of floods, vehicular movement along the highway has been restricted from 6 pm to 4 am, with traffic allowed only during the daytime.

The Mechi Highway has also been completely obstructed in Ilam Municipality due to a mudslide. Authorities have urged travelers to use alternative routes.

Similarly, several sections of the Araniko Highway have been blocked by landslides in Sindhupalchok, affecting transportation in several rural municipalities.

The Trishuli–Mailung–Syabrubesi road in Rasuwa has been rendered impassable due to river erosion.

In Rukum West, landslides have blocked the Jajarkot–Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor, while the Mid-Hill Highway has also been obstructed in Lamjung.

Authorities are working to clear the affected road sections and restore vehicular movement.

With rainfall continuing in several areas, the risk of further landslides and flooding remains high. Police have urged the public to exercise caution and check road conditions before travelling.
