HoR meeting delayed amid opposition protest

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled for 11 am today has not started as of the time of reporting.

The delay has been attributed to ongoing efforts to reach a consensus, as opposition lawmakers have been protesting in previous sittings, according to parliamentary officials.

Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Ekram Giri, said that Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal and Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane have been holding discussions with opposition parties in an effort to resolve the obstruction and resume the meeting.

Opposition parties have been demanding clarification from Prime Minister Balen Shah over his remarks on the Nepal–India border issue. They have also called for him to address the House and clarify his statement, as well as for the removal of the disputed remarks from the parliamentary record.

The statement in question was made by Prime Minister Shah during the May 31 session while responding to lawmakers’ questions in the House.
