LALITPUR: Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane, has emphasized that laws and policies should be formulated by prioritizing the interest and sentiment of the public.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a training program organized by the party’s training department for lawmakers in Patan, Lalitpur on Sunday, Lamichhane directed lawmakers to focus on lawmaking responsibilities rather than measuring success through social recognition or popularity.
He said the government has been introducing ordinances to address existing challenges and to accelerate legislative processes.
“The government is taking decisions thoughtfully. So far, there is no situation where we need to be disappointed with its work,” he said, adding that ordinances have been brought to ensure faster lawmaking, policy reforms, and development work.
Lamichhane clarified that no decision has been made that would negatively impact the country or its citizens. He added that the government remains committed to public welfare and the nation’s future.
Stating that the people have given a mandate to the party for change, he urged lawmakers not to consider themselves flawless simply because they have won elections.
Referring to past political movements, he said previous parties brought major political change through continuous struggle and sacrifice, while acknowledging that his party has not had to go through the same level of hardship.
He said although the political system has changed, people’s living conditions have not improved as expected, which is why citizens have trusted the party.
“No one should disrespect others. People from different political parties have left their parties and voted for us, so we must act responsibly,” he said.
Lamichhane urged lawmakers to focus on constructive work as the nation is closely observing their actions.
“We are not here to write biographies, but to write history,” he said, adding that the time had come to focus on transforming the country’s situation collectively.
He also reiterated the party’s commitment to resolving issues related to squatters and landless citizens, saying a high-level commission would be formed to find a long-term solution.
He further stated that the recommendation for the chief justice was made in accordance with constitutional provisions.
Lamichhane also said discussions had been held with the finance minister to make the upcoming budget effective and impactful, and stressed that efforts would be made to strengthen the state’s capacity by considering the entire country as a single constituency.
He added that the government is working to deliver positive messages to the public and that continuous accountability and oversight are essential to improving governance.
