Nepali Congress calls emergency Central Working Committee meeting

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress called an emergency meeting of its Central Working Committee amid growing internal political developments within the party.

Issuing a notice on Saturday morning, Chief Secretary of the party’s Central Office, Krishna Prasad Paudel, said the meeting was scheduled for 9 am at the party’s central office in Sanepa.

Office bearers, central committee members, invited members and presidents of all seven provincial committees have been requested to attend the meeting.

The emergency meeting has been called after the faction led by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma refused to withdraw preparations for the special general convention scheduled for January 11 and 12, citing the demand of 54 percent of the party’s general convention representatives.

Meanwhile, delegates continue to arrive in Kathmandu for the special general convention. The Bhrikutimandap convention venue is currently witnessing increased activity as preparations and arrivals pick up pace.
