Probe committee recommends dismissal of AIG Banshiraj Dahal

KATHMANDU: A committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs has recommended the dismissal of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Banshiraj Dahal over allegations of leaking sensitive security information.

The committee submitted its investigation report to the ministry on Thursday, recommending that Home Minister Sudan Gurung dismiss Dahal from his post.

Dahal was suspended by the government pending an investigation into the allegations. The Home Minister can now also decide on his dismissal, according to a Home Ministry source.

The committee was formed last Monday after the ministry received a recommendation from the Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal, to take action against Dahal for allegedly leaking sensitive security information. The investigating officer was instructed to complete the probe and submit a report within three days.

In a statement issued when the committee was formed, the ministry emphasized that APF personnel must comply with the code of conduct applicable to their service and position and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive security information.

Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Ananda Kafle said the ministry was closely monitoring and assessing employee misconduct, the leakage of confidential information and activities that could adversely affect peace and security.

The ministry also stated that anyone found involved in illegal activities would face action in accordance with prevailing laws.
