NAWALPARASI: Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has conducted an on-site inspection of areas affected by erosion caused by the Narayani River in Susta, West Nawalparasi.
Chief Minister Acharya visited Susta on Sunday and inspected the area where an existing temporary embankment has been damaged by river erosion. He said the provincial government would provide support to prevent further erosion.
He said the provincial government would provide assistance from its Disaster Management Fund for the construction of an embankment to protect Susta’s land from the river.
Acharya also said materials including wire mesh and sandbags required for constructing a temporary embankment would be provided.
During the inspection, Acharya assured Bel Bahadur Bishwakarma, project engineer at the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Office in Bharatpur, Chitwan, that the provincial government would support ongoing embankment construction work in Susta.
According to Rabindra Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Susta Protection Campaign, local residents and security personnel have been working around the clock to protect the area from river erosion.
