KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has said that the party will intervene if the government fails to work in line with its goals and promises.
Commenting on the government’s performance and stability, Lamichhane said that if the government deviates from the right path, political parties have the ability to bring it back on course. He added that the government has not failed so far and that the party is determined not to allow such a situation to arise.
“The government must work according to its promises and objectives. If it fails to do so or goes astray, we have a political party capable of bringing it back on the right path,” Lamichhane said. “The party has the ability to correct the government, even by holding its ears if necessary. But that situation has not arisen yet, and we will not allow it to arise.”
He added that if the government goes off track, the party will work to bring it back within its intended course and make the overall journey easier.
Comparing the operation of the government to an airplane flight, Lamichhane urged people not to panic over occasional “turbulence” caused by technical problems or external factors.
He called on citizens to remain calm and expressed confidence that the government would be taken safely to its intended destination.
Four-month performance should have shown clearer signs
Lamichhane acknowledged that the government’s four-month performance had not produced the clear signs of change that many people had expected.
He said the party was carefully listening to citizens’ suggestions and complaints and urged the public not to lose confidence. According to him, although four months is too short a period for a full evaluation of the government, some positive indications should have become visible by now.
Stating that the RSP includes many young people and professionals committed to changing society, Lamichhane said the party has the political leadership and responsibility to handle difficult situations.
“Our party has the political guardianship to deal with challenging circumstances,” he said. “This party has young people who are eager to contribute to change. It is rare in history for a large group of professionals from non-political backgrounds to come together with the awareness and determination to transform the country. We are in that moment of awareness.”
Lamichhane also said the government belongs to the citizens and that the responsibility entrusted to it by history must be fulfilled. He expressed commitment to making the government successful in cooperation with the people.
