KATHMANDU: Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav and Egypt’s Ambassador to Nepal Sherif Mustafa Elsayed Eldiwany held a courtesy meeting on Tuesday at the Vice President’s Office in Lainchaur.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged greetings and discussed various aspects of long-standing friendship, goodwill, and mutual understanding between Nepal and Egypt, according to the Vice President’s Office.
On the occasion, Vice President Yadav expressed satisfaction over the friendly relations maintained between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic ties on July 16, 1957.
He also noted that Nepal established its embassy in Cairo in 1966, while Egypt opened its embassy in Kathmandu in 1970, describing the move as a symbol of cordial bilateral relations.
Yadav welcomed the upcoming second meeting of the Nepal–Egypt Bilateral Consultation Mechanism being held in Cairo after a long gap, expressing confidence that the meeting would lead to important agreements and new avenues of cooperation.
He further highlighted that both Nepal and Egypt are founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and continue to collaborate in international forums including the United Nations, G77, and the World Trade Organization.
Stating that the relevance of the Non-Aligned Movement remains strong as long as issues of injustice, marginalization, and poverty persist, the Vice President said Nepal and Egypt share a common understanding on this matter.
He also appreciated Egypt’s historical leadership role in the Non-Aligned Movement and thanked the Egyptian government for providing training opportunities to Nepali officials and scholarships to Nepali students.
Extending greetings on Egypt’s National Day, Vice President Yadav conveyed best wishes for peace and prosperity to the Egyptian leadership and its people.
He expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would become even more productive during the ambassador’s tenure.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Eldiwany reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nepal in multiple sectors.
“Egypt is ready to support Nepal in all areas, particularly in military and agriculture sectors,” he said, adding that Egypt is also willing to assist in supplying chemical fertilizers and engaging agricultural experts to enhance Nepal’s farming sector.
He further stated that efforts would be made to increase the number of scholarships provided to Nepali students during his tenure.
