KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will remain in hospital for further medical treatment, despite being officially released from police custody today.
Oli was released following a government decision to implement the recommendations of the high-level commission, led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, that investigated incidents from the recent Gen-Z Movement. Although the legal restraint has been lifted, his health condition requires continued clinical supervision.
The UML chief was taken into custody by police on March 28 from his residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur. The arrest was part of an investigation into his alleged involvement in the Gen-Z protests, based on findings from the Karki Commission.
Since his apprehension, Oli has been undergoing treatment at the hospital under security detail. While he is now a free man, party sources indicate he will stay hospitalized for a few more days until doctors clear him for discharge.
The government’s move to release him marks a significant turn in the ongoing investigation into the youth-led political unrest.
