Traffic disrupted on Butwal–Narayangadh road due to rain

KATHMANDU: Traffic along the Butwal–Narayangadh section of the Mahendra Highway has been disrupted due to muddy and slippery road conditions caused by rainfall.

The road has been completely obstructed at the Daunne section in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality–2 of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East).

According to Superintendent of Police Yubaraj Khadka of the District Police Office, vehicles have become stuck on the muddy road near Ghiyukhola and Bishwakarma Temple in the Daunne area, leading to a halt in traffic movement.

Continuous rainfall since Wednesday afternoon has made the road slippery, causing vehicles to skid and creating congestion along the route.

“Light but persistent rainfall since yesterday afternoon has made it difficult for vehicles to climb the Daunne uphill section,” Khadka said. “Several vehicles have become stuck in the mud, creating the disruption.”

Freight vehicles have currently been halted in the Arun Khola area to prevent further congestion, he added.

The Narayangadh–Butwal Road Project said repair work is underway by laying gravel on the affected section to restore traffic.

The Daunne section frequently faces disruption even during light rainfall as construction work under the Butwal–Narayangadh road expansion project remains incomplete.
