Govt working to reform health insurance: Health Minister



KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam has said that the government is making efforts to improve and reform the health insurance system.

Speaking at a health insurance reform program held here on Wednesday, jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and Population, the Health Insurance Board, and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), Minister Gautam said that health insurance remains the government’s top priority in the health sector.

She said the government is exploring ways to make the health insurance program sustainable and informed that continuous discussions are being held with experts and stakeholders to identify and address shortcomings in the program.

Director of the Health Insurance Board Dr. Raghuraj Kafle clarified that the health insurance program is an integral part of the social security system and is not intended to generate profit. He emphasized that adequate budget allocation, long-term commitment, and clear policy discussions are essential for the effective implementation of the program.
