Minister Yadav conducts field inspection amid LPG shortage

KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav on Saturday inspected several LPG gas industries and the Nepal Oil Corporation’s distribution centre in Teku amid continued shortages of cooking gas in the market.

During the inspection, Minister Yadav took information about LPG supply and distribution and directed concerned authorities to ensure consumers can obtain gas easily.

Nepal Oil Corporation Executive Director Nagendra Sah said there was no problem with LPG imports from India despite shortages in the market. He said efforts were underway to address distribution-related problems and that the situation would improve soon.

According to Sah, daily demand in Nepal stands at around 90,000 to 100,000 LPG cylinders, while around 150,000 cylinders are currently being sold and distributed each day.

However, consumers have continued to complain about difficulties in obtaining LPG. The corporation said it was preparing to extend distribution hours, deploy additional staff and operate a control room to ensure consumers are not turned away without gas.

The shortage emerged after the corporation resumed the sale of full LPG cylinders, with authorities attributing the continuing difficulties mainly to problems in the distribution system.
